Are you a passionate researcher in the field of Immunology or Molecular Biology? The esteemed INSERM U1183 (IRMB) and the University of Montpellier in France are announcing a 3-year fully funded PhD opportunity within the groundbreaking IHU IMMUN4CURE project.

About the IMMUN4CURE PhD Project

The research team, led by Pascale Louis-Plence at IRMB in Montpellier, France, is focusing on a cutting-edge topic: Regulatory T cell engineering for restoring immune tolerance in Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA).

This project aims to develop CAR-Treg (Chimeric Antigen Receptor T-regulatory cells) as a precise therapeutic strategy. By engineered anti-cancer cell platforms, the goal is to restore immune tolerance to auto-antigens and reduce overall immunosuppression in RA patients, providing a comprehensive Proof-of-Concept.

Key Research Objectives

The selected PhD candidate will be heavily involved in translational immunology, with core objectives including:

  • Assessing the specificity of CAR-Tregs in a laboratory setting.
  • Engineering and performing detailed characterization of human CAR-Tregs.
  • Studying their ability to modulate in vitro immune responses.
  • Confirming their therapeutic activity using in vivo mouse models.

Required Qualifications & Eligibility

To be considered for this fully funded PhD position, applicants must hold a Master's degree or equivalent Engineering degree in one of the following fields:

  • Immunology
  • Cell & Molecular Biology
  • Biotechnology
  • Biomedical Sciences

Preferred Experience: A strong interest in Translational Immunology is mandatory. Previous laboratory experience in Cell Therapy, Immunotherapy, Human Tregs, CAR-T, or Flow Cytometry will be highly preferred. The team is looking for an enthusiastic, independent worker eager to learn new techniques.
